Not Traveling Alone

“Aren’t you afraid to travel all that way by yourself?” she asked.

“No, I’m not afraid,” I quickly replied.

Hours after that conversation, in the privacy of my bedroom, I began to second-guess myself. Maybe I should be afraid. It is a long way to go alone. Charlotte, North Carolina to Munich, Germany. A seven-hour layover there. Then a flight to Budapest, Hungary, and a shuttle to the hotel where I’ll stay overnight before finally meeting up with our mission team two days after leaving my home.

A lot could happen over those 5000 miles…

“Yes, that is a long way to go alone.” The voice inside me was sounding louder.

And then, God spoke. First he spoke through my backpack. And then through facebook. Yes, you read that correctly.

I’d dropped my backpack on my bed earlier in the day. When I picked it up to move it, I saw the cross and angel pins dear friends had given me before my first trip to Romania. I had put them on my backpack to remind me…oh yes, that I don’t travel alone.

Later when I was scrolling through facebook posts, I landed on this YouTube video. I can’t tell you who posted it, but I do know that God used it to remind me for the second time in 30 minutes that I don’t travel alone, so there is no reason to be afraid.

“I know who goes before me,
I know who stands behind,
the God of angel armies
is always by my side.
The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine.
the God of angel armies
is always by my side.”

(Chorus of "Whom Shall I Fear" by Chris Tomlin)

  1. Amen! I'm praying for you, dear Kim, as you have made it there safely. I know He continues to travel with you. May your time there be rich with fruitful labor and sweet fellowship.

Each week I write a BOG (Brag On God) post. My prayer is that my words will invite you to brag on God, too. And together we'll make God smile.
