Write Your Love

"The faintest ink is more powerful
than the strongest memory."  --Chinese Proverb

She is unforgettable, so it’s not about remembering. I could never forget her or her love for me. She spoke it and she showed it. I knew it when she was alive and I know it now, nearly 14 years after her relocation to Heaven.

Today is my Mom’s birthday. I don’t miss her more today than any other day, I just miss her in a different way. Today I wish I could give her a special birthday gift. I’d probably choose something heart-shaped or ocean-related, two of her favorite things. And when she opened my gift she would no doubt exclaim "Wow Dee Wow!"

I can’t give her a gift today. But true to form, she continues giving them to me.

A small set of reference books, given to me by Mom years ago, sits on my desk even as I type these words. The books themselves are of little value. From the outside you couldn’t imagine the treasure within. You have to open the thesaurus to discover it.

I am confident that you say, “I love you” to those you love. There’s no doubt in my mind that you also show it by your loving actions. Don’t stop.

But today I am asking you to write your love. Perhaps you’ll write it inside the cover of a special book, or in a card, or on a strategically placed post-it note. I don’t care where you write your love. Use a napkin if you have to.

But write it. Write it today. And write it in ink.

“I thank my God every time I remember you.” Philippians 1:3 (NIV)

“My dear, dear friends! I love you so much. I do want the very best for you. You make me feel such joy, fill me with such pride….” Philippians 4:1 (MSG)

  1. Love this, Kim. So sweet to see her written words in a book cover. I love the things I own with a hand-written message from my mom who is also with the Lord. And it's such a good reminder to leave these reminders for those we love. Thanks

  2. Thank you, Gail. It's amazing to me how such a seemingly "small" thing can have such a big impact. Since Mom and I shared a love of books, I have several others containing a personal message from her. Such treasures! I'm so grateful, and I hope this inspires some of my readers to start "writing their love" if it isn't already their practice. Thanks, as always, for your encouragement, Gail!

Each week I write a BOG (Brag On God) post. My prayer is that my words will invite you to brag on God, too. And together we'll make God smile.
